Worse than Canetoads

Posted by subaru in Untagged

The rabbits and hares are easier to control than canetoads, and they do far more damage, much quicker than the dreaded toads.

But, like toads, everyone killed is a step in the right direction.

If you can safely and humanely trap, bait shoot hunt, net, run over any of them, or destroy their burrows, do it.

If you are unable to physically do anything, for whatever reason, but you can read this blog , then you can still ask for assistance.

I know that many people find themselves uneasy about ending a creatures life.

Better to ask for some help than to ignore this rapidly growing problem.

FERAL RABBITS DESTROYING PENSIONERS GARDENS

Posted by subaru in rabbits

I combined a work trip with a visit to my parents who live at Tarameo near Blackbutt. A chance remark by Dad about his destroyed tomatoes got me strolling the gardens.

Many skats and scratchings had me out with the spotlight that night. On a adjacent farmlet I counted 14 rabbits and 3 hares in a 100 x 100 metre area.

The following day a trip to the Sunshine coast hinterland revealed dead rabbits and hares near Kingaroy, Conondale, Kenilworth and Jimna. These were just roadkill.

My parents are in their eightees. Their garden is under seige.  My mother has declared war. This mothers day we are returning to help fortify their  gardens.

"What ever the outcomes of climate change, generally speaking they will favour invasive species with broad ecological and habitat tolerance. This will exacerbate the impact rabbits have on the natural environment"
